Cat Ba Island
Rather than visit the tourist-packed area of Halong Bay, we went south to the peaceful Cat Ba Island to see the famous limestone karsts.
First we took a rickety ferry to Cat Ba Town.
We started with a moped ride across the island visiting a Viet Cong Hospital Cave and Fort, partly in the rain.
The highlight though was the two days we spent trekking through the jungle then travelling to a beach resort and kayaking around the karsts and floating villages.
