C’est le Fin de la Saison

It is definitely the end of the season.  Today, we are sitting here in 24 degrees of heat with brilliant sunshine and the snow is disappearing fast.  Having said that we skied our 76th, and probably last, day yesterday and had excellent snow until lunchtime.  It was so good in fact that our friend, Lucien, clocked us skiing at 57 mph on hard=packed snow at the top of Avoriaz.

As the season has come to an end, it is a series of closing parties and other activities.  We have switched to a lot of walking, and visited a variety of places which have been completely new to us.  There is a fantastic four mile walk up the river to the old gold mines called Lac de Mines D’Or.  We trudged through deep snow to reach some great views of the valley and lake.  Also, amazingly the Montriond Lake has still been frozen in mid-April which is a great bonus for walking.  In between, we also visited the Nyon waterfall, which is in full flow as the snow melts on the mountains above.

We have also been moving forward to our next phase with lots of planning going ahead.  We have had two visits to the hospital at Annecy to get our inoculations.  We are now fully loaded for most of SE Asia and South America.  We are also into organisation mode with visas and other things to sort out.

As the place changes to Spring it is fun, but also sad.  Various people we have met are moving on to other things, as people talk of going back to regular jobs or surfing etc., but we too are looking forward to our trip to India and beyond.  We have two weeks back in the UK, but this time in one month we will have just landed in India – bring on the change!  We will also look forward to catching up with all the friends we have made out here, both British and other countries, in the future.
