Chiclayo

Our first stop in northern Peru was the centre of Moche culture. Our first stop was the museum showing the contents of the tombs of the Moche chief, the Lord of Sipan. Unfortunately, no photos are allowed inside, in what is the most exciting archaeological find after Tutankhamen in Egypt.

We then went to another Moche settlement, near Tucume. The adobe huacas, or flat-topped pyramids, were built a thousand years ago, before being ravaged by time and El Niño.

We also trekked, and climbed, to the lovely swimming pools in the nearby valley at Mayascon.
