Away from Morzine

Obviously we have spent most of the time in Morzine, but we have had three excursions in the three months we’ve been here.

Firstly, we had a mini-European tour early in February.  We flew to Berlin to meet Rhodri and Richard and partake in the usual bars in the area.  Although Tim was quite rough with a very bad cough, we did manage to get to a few places and stay out of trouble!

We then flew on to Rome.  Steve and Jill very kindly invited us to the rugby with a couple of their friends. It was a lovely trip, and not too cold; all helped by the fact that England played well to beat the game Italians.

A couple of weeks ago we went to visit Janet and Mike in Chamonix for a night.  Tim managed to have an afternoon of extreme skiing off Grand Montets as it was Paul’s time to be ill with a bad chest.  After surviving the Italian Bowl, where an Italian previously died, we had a lovely evening of Apres Ski with Janet and Mike.  The sun cleared for the next day and we both went skiing with Mike.  A great day of powder and a trip down the Rognon and Argentiere glaciers, right up close to the real glacier coming down the valley.

Our last visit was due to the cold.  Although the UK has experienced cold weather, we were experiencing temperatures of -10 during the day and -20 at night for a couple of days.  We decided to go to Annecy, just beyond Geneva, with Wendy and Tony.  It is on a beautiful lake and has a lovely mediaeval old town.  The temperatures had warmed up to a tropical -4 down lower, so with plenty of layers it was just about bearable.

One Responseso far.
